The Bible teaches that Jesus is our Advocate, and our Mediator which means that he intercedes for us before God the Father. He pleads our case, defends our rights, and represents our interests as our legal counsel. He does this because he loves us and wants us to be reconciled with God.

Jesus Christ, as our mediator, fulfills this role perfectly. He serves as the bridge between God and humanity, addressing the gap created by sin. Through His sacrificial death on the cross, Jesus paid the penalty for our sins, granting us access to God. In essence, He acts as our advocate, interceding on our behalf before God. This profound truth is beautifully expressed in 1 Timothy 2:5 (KJV):

“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” 1

Through Jesus, we find reconciliation, redemption, and the path to eternal life. His mediation ensures that we can approach God with confidence, knowing that our sins are forgiven and our relationship with Him is restored.

One of the verses that describes Jesus as our advocate is 1 John 2:1:

> My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; ¹

This verse tells us that Jesus is our advocate when we sin, which means that he does not condemn us or abandon us, but rather he speaks on our behalf and asks for God's forgiveness and mercy. He also provides the basis for our forgiveness, which is his own righteousness and his sacrificial death on the cross. He is the propitiation for our sins, which means that he satisfied God's wrath and justice by taking our place and bearing our punishment.

Another verse that mentions Jesus as our advocate is John 14:16:

> I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; ³

This verse shows that Jesus is not only our advocate, but also our helper. He promises to send us another advocate, the Holy Spirit, who will be with us and in us, to teach us, guide us, comfort us, and empower us. The Holy Spirit is also called the Spirit of truth, who will testify about Jesus and glorify him.

Therefore, as Christians, we have two advocates: Jesus Christ, who is in heaven at the right hand of God, and the Holy Spirit, who is on earth in our hearts. They both work together to help us, to assure us, and to conform us to the image of Christ.
